Antique Fine Furniture Lovers

September 10th, 2011 admin No comments

Filled with warmth and a feel from the past, antiques offer an elegance not found in modern woodcrafts.

Locating a prized table or sideboard is a wonder that will be treasured for years. More importantly, selecting a company that will take the proper steps in restoration will guarantee your piece will shine with a presence of its original state.

It takes a skilled and experienced artisan to restore antiques. Not everyone possesses the deep appreciation for fine furniture and how to bring out the best in the appearance. Understanding how different processes affect wood is crucial in restoration. Companies that are experts in the field will spend hours in sanding and staining. Protecting fine furniture by hand rubbing between several coats of clear-coat lacquers is also essential in delivering the exact luster required.

Many fine antique furniture restorers will offer finished wood products for sale in showrooms where the selection can introduce one to different styles and unique designs never seen before. The bedroom is a perfect place to create the majestic feel of royalty with a French Satinwood Inlaid Carved Louis XV or a huge French Provincial Bedroom Vanity Mirror that delivers a statement of quality design and historical significance.

Antique pieces that require reupholstering also need expert hands in proper placement of padding and material, secured with hardware that closely resembles the original item. Quality fabrics and leather need to be used to assure years of perfect color and wear. A faded upholstered chair can diminish the look of a fine chair or loveseat.

Hand carved mirror and picture frames can further enhance a room with the exquisite detail of golden swirls and tiny floral details that outline a perfect print. Many frames can become tarnished and collect dirt over time but the restoration process of patient artisans can bring an antique frame back to life.

Whether you have an antique that needs restored or want to own a finished designer piece, choosing a company that specializes in the process of antique restoration is one that needs to be checked out carefully. Not every company has the ability to put the time and care into creating a work of art. Carrocel Restorations of Markham, Ontario has been serving the needs of antique lovers since 1983. They have a dedicated crew of artisans that take pride in each finished product and follow as many as 25 steps in finishing each antique, as if it were their own.

You can learn more about Carrocel Restorations by visiting the website at www.carrocel.com to contact for an estimate for your piece. A 7,500 square foot showroom is also open for your browsing pleasure of timeless pieces and suites. Fine Real Estate, Jewelry, Vehicles and Antiques to Be Sold to the Highest Central Virginia Bidder Dec. 17, 2005

Farmville, VA (PRWEB) December 6, 2005

On Dec. 17, 2005 at 8 a.m., the estates of Pete & Dot Hillsman and W.H. (Bill) King will be placed on the auction block. Well-known throughout the greater central Virginia region, these late long-time Burkeville residents have left behind not only a lasting legacy but also a treasure trove of antique and collectible items. Now, through Carwile Auctions, Inc., their estates are being liquidated just in time for last-minute holiday shopping. Why fight the crowds and hassles of the mall when a one-of-a-kind Christmas present can be had at a friendly country auction? Those who are interested in attending this never-to-be-repeated event can find a full listing of items up for bid as well as directions to the sale online at the “Upcoming Auctions” link of http://www.carwileauctions.com.

Some of the excellent to brand new condition items that will be put through the “going, going, gone” warble include Mr. Hillsman’s family home on Agnew Street, antique pine and oak cabinets, a mahogany bedroom suite, pine dining furniture, a cherry desk, an 1850 Melodeon reed organ, four Rolex watches, numerous 14k and 18k gold jewelry pieces and three well maintained vehicles. A hand-painted vanity with mirror, a drop-leaf table with six embroidered chairs and a pecan hutch are just a few of the notable items the King estate will contribute to the combined estate sale.

Research conducted by the National Auctioneers Association (NAA) in 2004 revealed that live auctions account for $ 203.2 billion a year in sales. The association also noted that more than 50 percent of Americans have attended live auctions. The reason most often cited for attending is the bidding frenzy and excitement that is generated. With Virginia state champion auctioneer James (Jimmy) Carwile behind the gavel, Carwile Auctions, Inc. is locally renowned for rousing that energy and excitement.

Carwile Auctions, Inc., however, doesn’t stop with their well-liked auctioneer. They go the extra mile in lending that down-home neighborly appeal to their auctions, and the Hillsman/King event will prove no exception. The home-cooked aroma of tangy stew or roasted chicken is likely to greet attendees’ noses. Compliments of the Rice Volunteer Fire Dept., bidders can help out the local community while simultaneously wrapping up their Christmas gift lists. Enclosed heated tents will also be available for guests’ comfort in the event of inclement weather. Sated bellies, warm hearts and elated smiles on Christmas morning are sure to result from the Hillsman/King estate auction.

For more information on Carwile Auction, Inc., contact Sandy Henderson at (434) 392-5604. To learn what one-of-a-kind treasures can be had at the Hillsman/King estate auction, visit the company online at http://www.carwileauctions.com and click on the “Upcoming Auctions” link.

Host a unique girlfriend getaway in Savannah, where you and your besties are invited to let out your corsets and take the town, Scarlett O’Hara-style.     Scavenge for estate treasures at a plethora of antique galleries;
    Gaze admiringly at Southern gothic architecture and edifice;
    Visit 45 cultural attractions and historic sites;

Luxury Living Savannah, a splendid showcase of five historic mansions that offer a collection of rental options designed to accommodate parties of all sizes, offers ideal proximity to the best of its namesake city. Each of the aging Grand Ladies has been lovingly restored to its original splendor, the result of multi-million dollar renovations completed in accordance with historic guidelines. The homes incorporate bold, rich colors with modern amenities that the discerning traveler expects (gourmet kitchens with stainless steel appliances, luxe bathrooms with whirlpool tubs, flat-screen TVs,) and yet retain original details that make these luxe getaway options unique. The mansions display an extraordinary attention to detail, with antiques that tell their own story tucked into every corner.

Further separating Luxury Living Savannah properties from their character-less counterparts is a menu of customized in-house services that cater to an unforgettable girls get-together. Among the services that a hostess and her guests can use to strengthen the bonds of sisterhood are comfortable airport transfers, on-site spa services, and private chefs who are available to teach cooking classes and create gourmet meals tailored to the dietary specifications of the group.

Guests can choose among several accommodation options:

The Wedding Cake Mansion: The Wedding Cake mansion earned its name for its elaborate white bay window with ornate stained glass and white ornamental ironwork. This award-winning mansion, which has undergone a three-million dollar renovation and has earned historical certification, is located on Savannah’s Monterey Square, made famous by the movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. This 1869 2nd Empire Baroque home features a main house with four- to five-bedrooms, five-and-a-half ornate, lavish bathrooms, a formal living and dining room a gourmet kitchen and lovely courtyard with fountain. The Forsyth Park Mansion: Located a block from one of the country’s most beautiful parks, the Forsyth Park Mansion has undergone a painstaking renovation, which restored the home to its original grandeur, created one of Savannah’s finest and largest private gardens, and earned the mansion its historic certification. This four-bedroom home also has five spectacular bathrooms, a formal living and dining room, a gourmet kitchen, rambling side porches, and garden with a soothing fountain. There is also a two-bedroom, two-bath garden suite and a two-bedroom, one-bath carriage house. This gives you the option of eight bedrooms and eight baths to accommodate up to 20 guests.

The Washington Square House: Just two blocks from the popular River Street, the circa 1790 Washington Square House retained much of its original details throughout its renovation, such as the original staircase, heart pine floors and plaster ceiling medallions. Conducted in accordance with stringent federal preservation guidelines, this award-winning home has earned historical certification. The Washington Square House has four bedrooms and four luxurious bathrooms, a formal living and dining room, a gourmet kitchen, sunroom, and a courtyard with fountain. There is also a charming two bedroom, two-bath Carriage House. This gives you the option of six bedrooms and six baths to accommodate up to 16 guests.

The Jones Street Suites: Five luxurious, renovated suites comprise the Jones Street Collection, which is conveniently located on a street dubbed as “America’s Prettiest” by Southern Living. This 1860’s Victorian home is located within walking distance to all restaurants, shopping and historical monuments. Randy’s Room

January 7th, 2011 admin 2 comments

Thank you to everyone who has visited 'Randy's Room" (attic) over the past 35 years and helped made this small room in this small town, such a special place. This is an edited 10 minute clip from the hour long, 6th episode of American Pickers that aired on the History Channel. I posted this clip to share with friends and family. The show came looking for Jim to buy antiques. In the process they bought a few nice items but also showed my wacky childhood bedroom that contained no antiques. I was proud of that fact ....... So on that note, I want to say "thank you" to my parents, Jim and Brenda who let me begin thumb tacking items to my bedroom ceiling as early as 2nd grade and kept it in its original condition long after I moved out. This ultimately became my personal outlet for creativity and most likely kept me out of trouble as a child. I never imagined the items I stuck to my walls would ever have monetary value; it was just zany childhood expression...... What is important to understand is that my parents let me do it. Now when I look at it, I really think it is ART. Not many people saw it that way then but I hope some do now....... I guess most importantly is that my father "Jim" is a really cool guy, just like I think the show portrayed him and I am proud of that........ Sincere thanks to John Burkert, Ronald Heist for making the suggestions for the American Pickers show to stop by......
