Elcomsoft System Recovery Goes Corporate with Active Directory Support

December 3rd, 2011 admin No comments

Moscow, Russia (PRWEB) March 12, 2007

Elcomsoft has released the Professional version of Elcomsoft System Recovery, a boot-disk application that makes it easy to access your computer's Windows password settings. If you're locked out of your computer, Elcomsoft System Recovery will give you access and let you troubleshoot problems that are preventing you from running Windows. Elcomsoft System Recovery now works not only with local computer accounts, but also with domain controllers running Windows 2000 Server and Advanced Server, as well as Windows Server 2003, with full Active Directory support.

Under a special agreement with Microsoft, Elcomsoft System Recovery is based upon Microsoft Windows Preinstallation Environment (Windows PE), a hardware-independent minimal Windows system that replaces the antique DOS boot disk that was used to set up new computer systems.

Elcomsoft System Recovery is completely self-contained, allowing you to access each of your computers without the need for third-party or proprietary software. Now you can troubleshoot all of your computers with a single, easy-to-use program. Simply insert the CD, and boot your computer. If you don't have a CD or DVD drive, you can set Elcomsoft System Recovery to boot from a USB Flash Drive.

It's easy to dump password hashes from SAM/SYSTEM files or from the Active Directory database, and write them to a text file for further analysis and password recovery. You can get a list of all user accounts (local or from the Active Directory database) and their properties, including Administrator accounts. It's simple to reset and change the passwords of any of these accounts, including the account of Domain Administrator.

You can look up account privileges, detect accounts with empty passwords, and assign Administrator privileges to any (local) user account. It's easy to enable or unlock accounts that have been disabled or locked. The program will instantly recover passwords for special accounts such as IUSR_ and HelpAssistant, and can even recover passwords to many user accounts in a matter of seconds using effective pre-configured brute-force and dictionary attacks.

The program supports Windows NT4/2000/XP/2003/Vista. With full Unicode compliance, Elcomsoft System Recovery supports all US and non-US versions of Windows, with multilingual user names and passwords. The program detects which version of Windows you're using, and gives you access to your Registry files. Elcomsoft System Recovery is completely compatible with all PC hardware, including RAID and SCSI devices.

Elcomsoft System Recovery Professional costs $ 599(US) for a single-user license, includes express delivery worldwide, and comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. The Standard version (without Active Directory support) is also available. For more information, please visit ESR home page.

How can I find the value of a possible antique book?

August 11th, 2011 admin 5 comments

Question by maidmiriam01: How can I find the value of a possible antique book?
I have come across a copy of 'The Roycroft Dictionary' concocted by Ali Baba and the Bunch on rainy days. It was copyrighted in 1914 by Elbert Hubbard. I was just wondering if it is possible to guess at the value. It is in fairly good condition with all pages still firmly attached. The spine does have some minor damage to either end though. Is this something that can be repaired?

1. go to a antique book store or book collectors shop. If they can't help you, ask them if they know anyone who can.

2. call an antique book dealer or appraser. look em up in the yellow pages.

3. do some research online.

*one of these avenues should point you in the right direction.

Free Auction Dictionary E-Book Aims to Demystify Auction Jargon for Bargain Hunters

(PRWEB) October 27, 2002

Detroit, MI -- October 25, 2002 -- ELAC Auctioneers & Appraisers, LLC (ELAC) has produced a new e-book, "The Live and Online Auction Dictionary," which defines 503 terms used in live and online auctions. This free e-book provides extensive coverage of the auction argot and will instill a bidder with confidence about his participation at an auction. All terms are defined

in jargon-free language. The dictionary is available for free at ELAC's web site at URL http://www.elac-llc.com.

Shopping at auctions is a great way for shoppers to get bargains and find "one-of-a-kind" gifts for family members and loved ones. Many types of items are sold at auction: real estate, business inventories, fine art, antiques, automobiles, and household estates. Thus, interesting and unique merchandise is often available for purchase at an auction.

An auction is an accelerated sales process by which items or lots are rapidly sold, usually to the highest bidder. Selling rates at certain types

of auctions exceed 100 lots per hour. Each lot's sale presents bidders with a small window of opportunity to make a purchasing decision. Bidding success at an auction requires knowledge of auction selling propositions and

terminology.

For most people, auctions are ladened with cryptic terminology that has been in use for at least the last few centuries and perhaps even earlier. The earliest known auction was recorded in 480 BC by Herodotus, an ancient historian, who chronicled the marriage auction rituals of the early Babylonians. Furthermore, the term "auction" is derived from the ancient Greek root "auctio" which translates to "increase." The Roman Empire frequently sold booty from defeated enemies via the auction method "sub hasta" or "under the spear" on the battlefield after a military victory.

Savvy bidders know the difference between "reserve" and "absolute." misunderstanding those selling terms can result in the buyer paying an unintended price. A good auction dictionary will inform bidders about all

auction selling propositions that may be encountered at a sale. By law, all auctions are with reserve, in which sellers can establish a minimum sales prices, whereas absolute auctions lots are sold absolute - without minimums - to the highest bidder.

The dictionary's information was compiled and published into e-book format by a Detroit, Michigan auction company, ELAC Auctioneers & Appraisers, LLC. E-Books are books that have been processed for use on personal computers. While no official standard exists for the e-book format, 95% of available titles can be used with the average home computer that has either the

Microsoft Windows Operating System or Adobe's Acrobat Reader software

installed.

In 2001, ELAC was founded by its owners, Cedric and Martha Ector, a husband and wife team, after their graduation from Continental Auctioneers School of Mankato, MN. ELAC specializes in the sale of real estate, antiques, and personal property at auction and also provides personal property appraisal services.

how much would an antique dictionary be worth?

Question by nedoglover: how much would an antique dictionary be worth?
in an thrift store they have some really old dictionaries (a couple from about 1880). how much would these be worth? they are in fairly good condition. is there anything special i should look for in it?

Best answer:

Answer by peterpan_barrie
It really depends on the dictionary, I own several antique dictionaries that I purchased for very little (I know how to hunt for antiques, I rarely pay more than 10 dollars for the things I find). Though a dictionary may have a print date that may not be the year it was printed. You see, the dictionary may not have a copyright to it so the print date would not have to be changed to keep up with the copyright. For your average antique dictionary you are looking at about fifteen dollars at the most, it really depends on the year it is. The Webster's 1928 edition is one of the hardest of the dictionaries to find and therefore is worth the most. I unfortunately do not have that dictionary, I have looked for one for years but they are to much for me, so I will continue to search for one in my antique cheap-o way. I hope this helped.

Artfact Offers Free Online Art Research Tools

(PRWEB) January 24, 2005

Since its re-launch in December 2003, Artfact has invested significant resources to meet the information needs of the antiques and fine art market. Since 1989, Artfact has offered the largest and most complete database of auction sales results in the world. Now, Artfact is pleased to introduce new free services such as the Fine Art Style Guide and Artist Directory. Artfact strives to offer a wealth of accessible free information as well as a variety of database subscription plans to meet the needs of the art and antiques market. Truly a "one stop" solution, Artfact dramatically simplifies art & antiques research, appraisal and pricing. For information, visit http://www.artfact.com or call 617-252-5020.

Artfact continues to introduce valuable and informative features. Two new free features just introduced are the Fine Art Style Guide and an Artist Directory, which together comprise the world’s largest open encyclopedia of art (no fee or registration required). Offered in association with Grove Art Dictionary, an Oxford University Press publication, the Artist Directory includes more than 500,000 pages, and links for nearly fifty thousand American and European artists, including biographies and examples of the artists’ works sold recently at more than 500 auction houses. The Fine Art Style Guide provides definitions, examples and additional links on more than 40 fine art and design styles and movements. Artfact will soon introduce similar free Directories for Furniture, Decorative Arts, and Collectibles.

With complimentary registration, visitors can also access Fine Art Prices, a database of summary auction records on almost 50,000 American and European artists with original auction estimates, prices realized, dimensions, brief descriptions, and any available images for a complete range of paintings, sculpture, works on paper, prints and photography. Fast and simple search results can be sorted by date and by price.

Registered users also have free, unlimited, and searchable access to complete catalogues from Upcoming Auctions by close to 100 of the most experienced and reliable auction houses in the United States. Upcoming catalogs are unabridged from the original auction house versions including all of the original research and digital photography.

"Part of Artfact's mission has always been education," comments Jonathan Fairbanks, Vice President of Research and Curator Emeritus at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. "While providing the information services that the market needs, we also want to be known for advancing an understanding and appreciation of antiques and art through our free educational features and directories."

Artfact Premium, the newest database paid subscription level, provides unlimited access to the last five years of auction records: more than two million auction catalogue entries and the highest concentration of digital photos available anywhere. Auction houses, antique dealers and art galleries, art and financial advisors, collectors, appraisers, and estate attorneys will find that Artfact Premium offers the most useful information at the greatest value. A subscription costs as little as $ 35 a month or $ 375 annually. Unlike other databases that provide only partial records, Artfact's database records include all of the available original auction house information, research, condition, provenance, estimated and realized prices, and photos.

Comments Lynel Leonard, Vice President of Operations. "Active dealers, traders and collectors will find that this new level of subscription offers them access to a depth of information that allows them to both ascertain current market values and analyze price trends over the past five years."

For those dealers, collectors, and appraisers who only need to track recently or frequently sold antiques and art items, Artfact Basic provides unlimited access to the previous twelve months of auction results for just $ 10 for a one-month subscription.
